Jonathan Bowerman's BMW 1600-2
Words: Ariel Mulchan
Bringing you this C-L-A-S-S-I-C 1967 BMW 1600-2 by Jonathan Bowerman that will surely draw every eye!
Inspired by the old school DTM/German street scene and JDM, Bowerman jumped to create this build! Bowerman engaged a lot of his imagination to get his dream from thoughts to paper and ultimately to metal for his one-off custom ideas and techniques to come to life.
Bowerman says it wasn't easy but was definitely worth it. He has his wife's and daughter's support to thank, his good friend Jeff to thank for always pushing him to move forward with the build, and his crew at his shop, Corsa Technik, to thank for helping out and having the awesome, and crazy, ideas.
Although his dream car is a 599 GTO, Bowerman's current future plans are for a new and different BMW power plant, to keep it true, with all new rear suspension design, and ideas for an all new exhaust. This first BMW is Bowerman's shop car, and is made to showcase his crazy ideas and have fun.
Bowerman would also like to restore a 67 VW type 3 with his wife and daughter, in the future.
Like any build, it's never really "finished" but, so far, Bowerman has added these mods:
Covering the car in a full satin clear.
Adding 70s Era SSR Formula Mesh 15x8 F, 15x8.5 R
Three air suspension iterations to find the perfect dynamic to keep a factory ride quality and installing a full in house custom built Air ride with Airlift 3P.
Installing a Weber downdraft 32/36
Bowerman is I’m extremely proud of this car and what it has done for him. Bowerman says it is "a unique build and it’s the perfect way to compliment my shop and what we’re capable of doing. She still has a long way to go to be perfect, but that makes it fun. "
Well done, Bowerman, This is absolutely a show stopper!
